Product Description:
We shouldn’t have favorites, but the CXN100 stands out. Both hi-fi connoisseurs and dedicated Cambridge audio fans, who were already impressed with its forerunner, the CXN V2, are in for an even greater treat with the CXN100. This device has the power to revitalize a traditional hi-fi setup, infusing it with modern capabilities and a forward-looking appeal. As a network-connected device, the CXN100 also offers the convenience of remote firmware updates through the StreamMagic app, ensuring it stays up-to-date with the latest features and services.
Made by Music
Cambridge Audio understands that the heart of any audio system isn't the newest amplifier, turntable, or speaker—it's the music itself. More specifically, it's your personal collection of music. Mirroring their audience, the team at Cambridge Audio is composed of musicians, concert enthusiasts, and avid music fans. Music and its culture are at the core of their existence and have always played a significant role in their lives. This shared passion drives their primary mission at Cambridge Audio: to bring people closer to the transformative power of music.
Stunning Sound
The allure of streaming music used to be diminished by subpar audio quality, but this is no longer an issue with the CXN100. It’s engineered to combine the ease and convenience of digital music streaming with the exceptional sound quality that results from over 55 years of experience in hi-fi design. The CXN100 bridges the gap, ensuring that listeners no longer have to choose between convenience and high-fidelity audio.
ESS SABRE 9028Q2M DAC
Cambridge's highly acclaimed forerunner in network players, the CXN V2, was equipped with dual Wolfson DACs, which were considered top-of-the-line at the time. The CXN100, however, represents a significant technological leap forward. It features the cutting-edge ESS 9028Q2M DAC chip, which not only delivers superior audio performance but also outperforms any DAC previously used in a Cambridge network player, both in sound quality and technical measurements. The excellence of the ESS 9028Q2M's timing filter is such that it eliminates the need for a post-DAC filter, simplifying the signal path and reducing the intrusion of technology on the music. With the introduction of the CXN100, all Cambridge streaming products now incorporate ESS DACs, a choice driven by their efficiency and, more importantly, the exceptional sound quality they produce.
Tuned in London
Although the exterior of the CXN100 might appear similar to its predecessors, Cambridge has implemented significant changes internally. The company dedicated hundreds of hours to meticulously listening and testing, selectively replacing key audio components like capacitors and op-amps. This process was aimed at fine-tuning the entire post-DAC analogue stage to achieve optimal sound quality. These enhancements were not only confirmed through rigorous listening tests but also validated with precise measurements. The outcome of these efforts is a notable improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio, a reduction in distortion, and an overall elevation in the quality of the digital music experience provided by the CXN100.
Balanced XLR Connectors
When paired with a compatible amplifier, like the award-winning Cambridge CXA81, the use of balanced XLR connections creates the optimal analogue connection. This setup significantly enhances resistance to interference, a benefit that becomes especially apparent over longer cable runs. The balanced XLR connections ensure a cleaner, more stable signal, resulting in a superior listening experience.
StreamMagic
The CXN100 comes equipped with both free and subscription-based high-resolution streaming services, offering the highest sound quality available. Additionally, it features Apple AirPlay2 and Chromecast built-in, allowing you to easily access a variety of streaming platforms such as Apple Music, Amazon Music, BBC Sounds, and more. Furthermore, the CXN100 is Roon Ready, which means it integrates seamlessly with Roon's software to centralize and enhance your digital music browsing experience, all in one convenient location.
Gen 4 Streaming Module
At their London headquarters, Cambridge has been meticulously refining StreamMagic for over a decade. This innovative combination of hardware and software is the driving force behind all of their network players. Now in its fourth generation, this streaming module is the same advanced technology used in their award-winning Evo all-in-one players. The latest iteration of this module supports all current file types and resolutions, including up to 32-bit / 768kHz, DSD512, and MQA, all delivered in exceptional quality. It also includes integrated Bluetooth for effortless connectivity. The complementary StreamMagic app is both intuitive and powerful, offering easy and comprehensive control over your music, regardless of the streaming source, be it internet radio, Spotify, TIDAL, Qobuz, Deezer, or your own downloaded music files. Additionally, with Over the Air (OTA) updates, your CXN100 will continuously evolve, gaining new features and services, thus enhancing your listening experience over time.
MQA Now on Board
MQA, or Master Quality Authenticated, is an innovative technology designed to ensure that the full integrity of original studio recordings is preserved during streaming to playback devices worldwide. This technology is particularly well-known for its integration with TIDAL. MQA works by 'folding' the original high-resolution file, whether it's in WAV, FLAC, or another format, to reduce its size for easier streaming. These compressed files can be played back on any device capable of decoding the file's container format. However, to experience the full depth and detail of the original recording, a device equipped with an MQA decoder is required. This decoder 'unfolds' the file, revealing the complete, authentic track as it was initially recorded in the studio.
High Quality Internet Radio
The CXN100 incorporates mpeg-DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) and HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) technologies right from the start, enhancing the quality and consistency of live streams for a more engaging internet radio experience. These technologies are the same ones that enable seamless streaming on platforms like Netflix, as they prioritize the continuity of the stream and adjust the quality based on the available bandwidth. This is particularly beneficial for internet radio enthusiasts, as the support for DASH in the CXN100 means that favorite radio stations can be received in higher quality streams, provided they are available. This feature significantly elevates the listening experience by delivering clearer, more robust audio from internet radio broadcasts.
The Brain of Your Hi-Fi
The CXN100 could aptly be regarded as the central intelligence of your hi-fi system. Thanks to its exceptional internal DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) and a comprehensive range of connectivity options, it not only serves as a versatile hub for various audio sources but also significantly enhances the sound quality of other digital music devices. This includes CD transports or CD players that have digital outputs. By integrating the CXN100 into your system, you can expect a noticeable sonic upgrade, elevating the overall audio experience with richer, more detailed sound from your digital music sources.
Digital Connections
On the rear panel of the CXN100, you'll discover a variety of digital inputs that cater to different connectivity needs. There are two digital inputs: one TOSLINK Optical and one S/PDIF Coaxial, which are ideal for linking various digital sources. Additionally, there's an Asynchronous USB input, which is perfectly suited for PCs and Macs. This particular connection is recommended for accessing the highest resolution music, supporting formats up to 32bit/768kHz and DSD512. For local files stored on USB drives, there's a dedicated USB Mass Media port. Furthermore, Bluetooth functionality is included, providing effortless playback from mobile phones or similar devices. With this comprehensive range of inputs and features, Cambridge has meticulously covered virtually every aspect of digital audio connectivity and playback in the CXN100.
Preamplifier Mode
The CXN100 features a digital preamplifier mode, which offers a convenient functionality for managing audio volume. In essence, this means that the CXN100 can control the volume level for any digital source connected to it. This capability allows for a streamlined and integrated approach to volume management, eliminating the need for a separate, traditional preamplifier in your audio setup. You can adjust the volume easily using the newly designed, tactile control dial on the unit itself or through the StreamMagic app. This feature provides flexibility and ease in finding your preferred volume level, enhancing the user experience and interaction with your audio system.
Large Color Display
The display on the CXN100 is a testament to Cambridge's attention to detail and commitment to quality, ensuring it is far from being just an afterthought. This device features a large and vivid 1280 x 569 TFT display, which is a significant enhancement over typical displays found on hi-fi equipment. This upgraded display is designed to provide a clear and bright view of album artwork, enhancing the visual aspect of your listening experience. Additionally, it conveniently displays the unit's status, making it easy to monitor and navigate the various functions of the CXN100. This focus on a high-quality display underscores Cambridge's dedication to not only audio excellence but also to the overall user experience.
