The Hifi Podcast: How And Where To Add Tubes To A Hifi System

As I search the internet for information about NOS input tubes, I’m met with a tidal wave of information, opinions, discussion and high prices.

As I pop a carefully researched pair of tubes into the input stage of my amplifier however, I’m met with an astonishing sense of realism in the music that my speakers had to this point never revealed. It is truly amazing what a pair of good tubes can bring to a hifi system, and you can consider me now completely hooked on the NOS tube thing.

Tubes in general are an exciting side of the hifi hobby, and introducing them into your listening room can do wonders for your sound. Or, they can add a layer of maintenance and headache that many would choose to forgo. It’s the audiophile’s choice, really, but when you’ve got the right tubes for the right job, results can be magical.

In this episode of The Hifi Podcast, hosts Darren Myers and Duncan Taylor discuss a number of ways tubes can be added to a hifi system, and chat about all of the considerations to make before doing so. As usual, a couple of listener questions are also answered, and a killer album recommendation finishes up the show.
