Synergistic Setups Episode 4 - Harbeth P3 & the Ultimate Desktop HiFi System

The culinary world has gone a bit rustic in recent years, trading well-seasoned woods, Scandinavian comfort and the practice of expert, small-scale farming for the previous two decade’s fascination with scientific-style cooking.

The “molecular gastronomy” movement in the early 2000s was largely popularized by Ferran Adriá and his Roses, Spain–based restaurant El Bulli, and spread far and wide across the kitchens and in the minds of leading chefs thanks to its fascinating techniques and products.

But all of this innovation wouldn’t have been possible without the groundwork laid by Heston Blumenthal in the years preceding, involving his food-pairing experiments and diligent study of the combinations of flavors. Blumenthal influenced the entire art with a simple desire to discover and document the surprising synergy he found in unconventional mixes of things which produced flavors that were distinctly unique and enjoyable.

When it comes to sensory arts, like fine food, fine wine, and yes, fine sound, synergy is a foundational tenet. Audiophiles know this, and at The Music Room we’ve had the benefit of years of experience with all brands and their products over many decades, and we’ve long ago learned to recognize a special synergy when we hear it.

That’s why we created a new video series called Synergistic Setups, where we aim to share some of these special combinations we’ve discovered. In it, TMR’s Duncan Taylor takes the viewer through the ingredients and rationale behind each synergistic pairing of HiFi audio products, explaining the “why” as well as the “what.”

Have a look at the latest episode, the fourth in the series, where we focus on our favorite high-resolution desktop audio system. As Duncan explains, this combination of gear is about as foolproof and turnkey as reference sound can get in the HiFi hobby. While you’re at it, check out the rest of the Synergistic Setups series as well and be sure to leave a comment if you’ve got a unique synergistic pairing you’d like to share.
