Goldring Ethos SE Moving Coil Cartridge Key Features:

  • New pure silver coils - fewer windings with higher conductivity, reducing the effective tip mass and internal impedance of the pick-up for improved tracking and greater transient response.
  • Low-mass cross-armature core made from Swedish iron - improves channel separation and produces a more realistic soundstage.
  • A vital line-contact diamond stylus - narrow, low tip-mass, large contact-area that enhances high-frequency response along with minimized distortion and colouration.
  • New low reluctance pole-shoes - ensure smooth and extended frequency response via an exclusive process.
  • Low-resonance, aircraft-grade aluminum body - low density and superior rigidity.

Product Description:

Goldring introduces the Ethos SE, a special edition of its acclaimed Ethos model. Positioned at the pinnacle of Goldring's range of moving coil cartridges, the Ethos SE blends uncompromising engineering with unique new features to deliver exceptional sound reproduction.

With a series of exclusive and meticulously engineered upgrades, such as pure silver coils, low reluctance pole shoes, and a black anodized, aircraft-grade aluminum body, the Ethos SE establishes entirely new benchmarks in detail retrieval, channel separation, and low coloration. Even when compared to significantly more expensive cartridges, this special edition cartridge provides an immersive and thrillingly complete musical experience, embodying the true essence of Goldring's ethos.

New pure silver coils

Reducing the effective tip mass of a phonograph pick-up enhances its performance. The Ethos SE employs Ag 9999 pure silver coil windings, which offer very low internal resistance and reduced mass due to fewer windings being required. Consequently, these coils have a significantly lower mass compared to standard copper windings. This allows the Ethos SE to better navigate or 'track' the record groove without losing contact. The result is an improved transient response, reduced resonance across the audio spectrum, and a flatter overall frequency response.

Low-mass cross-armature

By utilizing high permeability Swedish iron in a low-mass cross-shape instead of the conventional, heavier square alternative, Goldring enhances channel separation and delivers an armature assembly capable of producing an exceptionally realistic stereo soundstage. This design improves high-frequency detail levels, reduces distortion, and virtually eliminates mis-tracking.

Vital line-contact diamond stylus

To capture the highest frequencies in a recording, the Ethos SE features a narrow, low tip-mass, large contact-area diamond stylus. This vital-shank, nude design boasts a polyhedral, line-contact diamond profile, attached to the armature by a stiff yet lightweight alloy cantilever tube. This design not only ensures an excellent high-frequency response but also minimizes distortion, resonance, and coloration.

GOL-1 generator

Originally developed during vinyl's initial surge in popularity, the GOL-1 generator guarantees a smooth and extended frequency response. Still handcrafted by Goldring, this generator exemplifies the company's enduring commitment to refining every aspect of its design and assembly. For the SE version, the pole shoes undergo a new process that enhances the metal's permeability, resulting in a lower reluctance magnetic circuit. This innovation flattens and extends the frequency response, particularly in the upper registers where musical detail is most prominent.

Aircraft aluminum body

The GOL-1 generator is housed in a precision-milled 6082-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum body shell. This material is chosen for its low density and superior rigidity, ensuring both durability and high performance. Additionally, its anodized black finish enhances its aesthetic appeal, making it as visually striking as it is robust.
