Offered today by The Music Room: One pair of Magnepan Tympani 1D Speakers. These speakers are coming from the original owner in exceptional condition. The speakers were sent to the factory to be completely refurbished several years back. New cloth / socks were installed at that time as well. These speakers feature a unique look. The previous owner wanted to have world-class audio production in his living room and butted up against the classic obstacle to audio fulfillment - the WIFE! He purchased and installed special order, custom socks in decorator material - certified for acoustic transparency by Magnepan. The cloth is a deep, rich lavender. Personally, I was originally appalled when I saw these speakers for the first time. Lavender speakers??!! That's heresy, right?! Well, they have grown on me... and the number of people who have walked into our showroom and complimented them has changed my mind about them. They may not be for everyone, but if you are up against a formidable case of WAF... these may just be the speakers for you. In their previous arrangement, they could be mistaken for beautiful, lavender room dividers... until someone pressed "play". Now onto their performance... absolutely breathtaking. Give these speakers a big room in which to breath, and give them plenty of power (bi-amp them)... and you will be blown away what speakers of this age can do. Magnepan refurbished them completely around 2000. It included new tweeters, replacement of Mylar membrane and coils for all four mid/bass panels, new wiring, new hinges.

Functional Notes: During testing, we drove these speakers to high-volumes with no distortion whatsoever. Performance is flawless from top to bottom. Every item we offer for sale undergoes a thorough listening session and review of all functions. Buy with confidence.

Cosmetic condition rating is 7/10 - Very good condition overall. Wood trim is excellent. Cloth is clean and attractive. There is one small tear in the cloth forming at the base of the speaker where the stands attach. This could be hidden easily. These are very attractive overall. Don't like the color?
