Offered today by The Music Room: One pair of Audio Research Ref 600 Amplifiers. These beautiful and classic amplifiers are being offered for sale on behalf of one of the great audio engineers in the world. He has designed and built some of the most highly regarded loudspeakers on the planet (Infinity IRS, Genesis I, II, III, IV etc). There is no doubt that he has an ear for quality. It’s this highly evolved ear that led the previous owner to select these fine amplifiers to be used in the most important stage of his speaker designs. They were used only in the final voicing stage of some of the larger, power-hungry prototypes. If you’re lucky enough to own one of these fine speakers and have been seeking the ultimate amplifier pairing, look no further.

These amplifiers are in perfect working order. Their performance is truly sublime. There aren’t adequate superlatives to convey the type of power and finesse these are capable of all at once. It’s a rare combination. The amps are all original and the tubes have very low hours. Again, these were never used for continuous, extended listening… only for isolated and intentional listening sessions at the final stage of the design. There is a lot of life left on the tubes. They have been in storage for a number of years… since the dis-assembly of the audio lab in which they were previously used. Always stored in a clean, dry environment.

In testing and verifying the function of these, we solicited the help of the owner of a local vintage audio repair shop. We wanted to get an extra set of eyes and ears in testing and verifying the full 100% function of these amplifiers. They operate flawlessly - not a single hiccup. I can’t imagine that a brand new pair would do any better. There is a little bit of warm-up time and then the music… as lush and lifelike as I have ever heard. It really is a thing of beauty.

Note that while these are the original Ref 600s (not mk ii or mk iii), in speaking with Audio Research we learned that they are what was referred to as the second revision of this model, so they are probably closer to the mk ii version than the first production run of the mk i.

Shipping: these will be packed inside very heavy duty, reusable shipping cartons with heavy duty EPE foam lining all sides. These boxes will be secured to a pallet and shipped FedEx freight. Cost to ship within the Continental USA is approximately $249. This includes securing to a pallet with adequate protection and shipping via FedEx freight to a business address. Cosmetic condition : Cosmetically, the amplifiers are very attractive and well cared for but not quite perfect. There are a couple of nicks on the case here and there. Most notably, there is a very small scratch on the white background of one of the meters. The needle itself also has a slight nick… it is intact but has a slightly different shape to it than the other 3. It is functioning perfectly, and you really have to be examining these very closely to notice any of this. The face of each unit is excellent aside from a couple of small blemishes on the handles. There is some discoloration of a brass plate on the back of each amp. Overall, these have been very well cared for and are extremely handsome.
