Product Description:

The EX Series, developed over the course of more than three years and backed by nearly 60 years of audio engineering expertise, stands as the spiritual successor to Cambridge’s iconic Azur 851 range—with the EXA100 at its core. Leveraging amplifier technology borrowed from the flagship Edge M monoblock power amp, the EXA100 delivers a powerful and immersive soundstage. With 100 watts per channel of Class AB amplification, it offers a combination of strength and finesse that brings both muscle and refinement to any listening experience.

A huge array of connectivity options, a built-in DAC, HDMI eARC and a dedicated Power Amp Mode make it functionally as accomplished as it sounds.

Cambridge Audio EXA100 Stereo Integrated Amplifier, new toroidal transformer

Transforming Audio Since 1968

Since the introduction of the revolutionary P40 amplifier in 1968, Cambridge Audio has been crafting innovative, transparent-sounding, and meticulously engineered British audio products. The P40’s legacy lives on, having pioneered the use of the toroidal transformer—a key component in today’s high-end hi-fi systems.

Following this tradition, the EXA100 is equipped with a powerful and highly advanced toroidal transformer. Heavily shielded and whisper-quiet, this transformer is paired with sleek, heavy-duty heat sinks that gleam through the top grilles, offering both visual appeal and optimal performance. The amplifier modules are derived from the no-compromise Edge M power amp, and the EXA100 even shares the same power transistors as its monobloc counterpart, delivering premium audio quality at a fraction of the price.

Cambridge Audio’s attention to detail is evident throughout the design. From four-layer PCBs to the proprietary CAP protection system, the EXA100 is engineered with safety and durability in mind. The CAP system employs four distinct methods to detect potential issues, such as power and temperature overloads, and takes preventive action to ensure reliability. Grounding has been carefully considered at every stage of the design process to ensure noise-free performance.

With 100W per channel of Class AB power, this meticulous design, coupled with countless hours of fine-tuning, results in an exquisitely detailed, richly textured sound that brings listeners closer to the heart of their music.

Make Sure You’re Connected

The EXA100 offers a comprehensive range of connectivity options, perfectly suited for modern integrated amplifiers. On the analogue front, it includes a balanced XLR input and three sets of RCA stereo inputs, providing flexible options for various audio sources. For outputs, there’s a 6.3mm headphone socket conveniently located on the front panel, as well as a stereo pre-out and subwoofer pre-out for enhancing bass performance. Additionally, two sets of speaker outputs allow for powering music in two different rooms or adding a secondary outdoor speaker pair.

On the digital side, the EXA100 truly shines, featuring an exceptional ESS Sabre ES9018K2M DAC for high-quality digital-to-analogue conversion. It offers a range of dedicated digital connections, including HDMI eARC for seamless integration with a TV, allowing volume control through the TV’s remote. The amplifier also provides inputs for USB Audio, digital coaxial, and two TOSLINK optical sockets, ensuring versatile digital connectivity.

For added convenience, Bluetooth aptX HD is available, making wireless streaming effortless. Whether you're streaming directly from a mobile device or wirelessly playing vinyl from a Cambridge Audio Alva turntable, the EXA100 ensures top-notch audio quality in every scenario.

Power Amp Mode

By switching the EXA100 into Power Amp Mode, it transforms into a dedicated stereo power amplifier, allowing it to seamlessly pair with the preamp of your choice. This feature opens up greater flexibility in customizing your audio setup.

One ideal pairing is with the new EXN100 music streamer, which comes equipped with a Preamp Mode. In this configuration, the EXN100 handles streaming functions and volume control, all easily managed through the StreamMagic app, while the EXA100 focuses on delivering stunning power and precision. Designed to work in perfect harmony, the EXA100 and EXN100 are literally made for each other, combining streaming intelligence with exceptional amplification.

Thoughtful Design

The innovation behind the EXA100 extends beyond its internal components, offering a striking new design that matches its high-performance capabilities. A standout feature is its sleek milled aluminium front panel, complemented by a tactile knurled volume knob that enhances the overall user experience. This amplifier not only delivers powerful sound but also exudes sophistication and a satisfying physical presence.

The EXA100 pairs perfectly with the EXN100 in both aesthetics and functionality. Both units feature matching Lunar Grey finishes and a bold full-height center panel that cuts cleanly through the fascia, creating a visually cohesive look.

The EX Series also introduces a new remote control, included with the EXA100, which can also operate the EXN100. Solidly built and intuitive to use, the remote reflects the thoughtful design approach of the entire EX Series, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience.
