Repair Technician
Our repair technicians are responsible for diagnosing, refurbishing and repairing a variety of home audio components and speakers - from vintage to state-of-the-art. This position requires a certain balance of efficiency, thoroughness and time-management. Candidates must have experience with component-level troubleshooting of audio electronics as well as soldering.
The position will require assessment, diagnosis and repair of high-end consumer audio equipment, including power amplifiers and a wide variety of circuits. Our customers are generally technically savvy and knowledgeable. Our products are generally very valuable. The variety of equipment is vast. It takes a very special individual to be able to competently repair such a wide array of components at a level that is satisfactory for our customers.
Content Creator
We are seeking a talented and knowledgeable HiFi Audio Content Creator to join our team. This role is perfect for someone who has a deep understanding of HiFi audio and a passion for sharing that knowledge with the world. You will be responsible for producing high-quality content such as writing product reviews for our blogs, filming gear spotlights for social media, and producing reliable and accurate information for our website. Your role is crucial in educating and engaging our audience. Through your expertise and creativity, we will guide audiophiles through their journey and save HiFi from extinction.
Receptionist
Otherwise known as "director of first impressions," our receptionists aren't an afterthought. They are critical members of the team whose job it is to make every customer feel welcomed and wanted. We receive a high volume of calls, emails and chats throughout the workday. This position requires a high-energy individual that can remain pleasant and personable while multi-tasking, directing traffic, triaging and escalating customers when necessary. A welcoming smile should come naturally - whether greeting an in-person customer or answering the phone. Our receptionists are our first and most important touchpoint that new and returning customers will have with our brand.
Content Editor
"Attention to detail" is a phrase you'll hear pretty often around TMR. For our content editors, it's a way of life. Accuracy isn't just part of the job. It is the job. Our content editors are the last line of defense before our product listings get published - carefully reviewing and verifying the listing content and pricing for 40-50 products per day. The people who thrive in this position tend to enjoy a good pair of headphones, a hot cup of coffee and a large sized computer monitor (or two) to keep them company through their work days. They are responsible for every facet of a product listing - from the quality and order of the photographs to ensuring that customers have all of the technical info they will need to make a buying decision. A working knowledge of high-end audio products is a big plus. A fanatical commitment to getting the details "right" 100% of the time is the most important factor for success.
Sales Associate
Sales at TMR is an exciting position where you will never have a dull moment. Primary responsibilities include answering phones, fielding live online chats, direct emails from customers, and responding to appraisal requests. Our sales associates function much like brokers, and are tasked with facilitating complex appraisals, trades and price negotiations in a fast-paced, high-volume, online environment. The ideal candidate for this position is a world-class multitasker and hungry sales professional with a proven track record of exceeding goals, exceptional sales performance, prospecting new business and creating their own up-selling opportunities.
A typical day will entail answering dozens of emails, live chats and phone calls each day. This position is performed almost entirely virtually (no in-person store traffic), so a high level of computer, email and internet proficiency is a must. Familiarity with Salesforce.com or other CRMs is a big plus. We’re looking for a self-starter who shares our core values and is eager and willing to grow, adapt and evolve. Must love music and have a shared passion for good sound. Our best people at this position see sales a craft, and are willing to receive feedback and are eager and willing to daily hone their craft. Our "sales philosophy" is about winning customers rather than selling gear.
Technician
Our techs are truly on the front line of the TMR customer experience. They are receiving incoming inventory - unpacking and placing products (some heavy lifting required) up on the bench for assessment. Each piece must be handled with care. This position requires familiarity with a wide variety of home audio components and speakers; sharp eyes and ears; attention to detail and the ability to communicate (often in writing) with the rest of the team. It’s up to our techs to answer the question “is this product fully functional” and to provide written details in our inventory system about any functional or cosmetic issues that our customers will need to be aware of. A typical day might include checking a few emails as you drink your daily espresso then diving into the pile of awaiting shipments and testing and entering into inventory 12-15 pieces of gear.
Photographer
Our photographers aren’t just taking pretty pictures (although our photos really are beautiful). They are tasked with moving valuable, heavy and often very fragile equipment from rolling racks onto the photography table. Our photographers are generally the last people to touch the equipment before it’s ultimately shipped to a customer. So, before we photograph anything, we clean it so that our customers aren’t finding dust or fingerprints on their newly acquired treasures. This job can be hard work (heavy lifting required) and it can be a little repetitive, but if you enjoy having a camera around your neck and looking at some of the most amazing audio gear in the world on a daily basis, you will enjoy this position.
One of the most challenging parts of this position is re-packaging and stocking the gear after the photographs have been taken. This is where familiarity with audio gear and great attention to detail is required. If it’s not put away correctly, it could be damaged in shipping. And it’s important to record the weight and dimensions of each box before it’s stocked in the warehouse with a correct shelf location in our system. This is all part of the daily job of a TMR “photographer.” The folks on this team are often seen wearing headphones as they work quickly but conscientiously from one piece of gear to the next. In between, there’s a little desk-work involved - some product research, photo-editing or marketing projects. It’s a fun team, and their work is what makes our website so fun to browse.
Appraiser
One of the most challenging aspects of buying and selling used audio gear is that there is no single, comprehensive, reliable source for determining the current value of used audio gear. Our team is tasked with appraising literally thousands of items each month. And the more accurate our appraisals, the better experience we can give our customers. Do you love researching audio gear for hours on end? Do you have experience evaluating the market value of used items? Do you enjoy working in solitude in front of a computer with a nice pair of headphones on enjoying tunes and being left to do your work? This is the job of an audio appraiser working for the world’s largest online retailer of used HiFi. You’ll need to be familiar with hundreds of brands of gear spanning multiple decades. You’ll need a good grasp of number crunching and a consistent work ethic. Read more about our appraisal process here.
Technical Support Associate
Earning and maintaining the trust of our customers is the essence of our success as a business. For us, this means that we are dedicated to our customers just as much after the sale as before - whether they are spending $200 on a certified pre-owned item or $10,000 on a factory authorized component. Customer service isn't just something we talk about. It's at the very core of who we are and what we do. Our technical support associates must have a working knowledge of audio components, cables and speakers. Our support techs regularly perform system troubleshooting by phone and email. This position requires a healthy balance of technical acumen, people skills, empathetic listening and patience. This position works closely with our repair techs, but is mostly customer-facing throughout the day. Organization and attention to detail are essential skills. A strong desire to solve problems is mandatory. We represent nearly 40 factory authorized brands and sell pre-owned products from thousands of brands spanning decades of audio history. There's no manual for this position. This job is all about critical thinking, problem-solving, internet research (find the answers), clear communication (written and verbal) and giving every customer the benefit of the doubt (even the ones that are frustrated).
Shipping Assistant
In a typical day in the shipping department, you might see anywhere from 30-60 packages going out the door and a few pallets as well. Each package is given the thought and extra care that we would want for our most valuable investments. Most of our products are already in their original factory packaging. Those packages are double-boxed - sometimes with extra reinforcement to ensure safe delivery. Items that don’t have factory packaging are treated to a custom foam-molded box using our Instapak foam-in-place system that provides the customer with a custom, re-usable shipping box that is often even better than the factory-engineered packaging. In the world of high-end, used audio gear - often very valuable, heavy and fragile - our expertise in shipping truly sets us apart from the competition. Our online reviews are full of praise for the incredible job our team does every day in this department. It’s the most physically demanding job in the building, but also requires good instincts around physics and engineering. A basic familiarity of audio products goes a long way. Every product can present a unique challenge and some creative thinking to get the job done and prevent damage. At this time, we have a part-time position available.
