Product Description:
A New Benchmark in Amplifier Design
The Mola Mola Ossetra represents a ground-up reimagining of modern amplification. Building on the legacy of the renowned Kaluga, it introduces a completely redesigned architecture based on Mola Mola’s proprietary Trajectum Class D technology. Every element—from power supply to output stage—has been refined to deliver a level of performance previously thought impossible in a switching amplifier.
Power Supply
Meeting EMI regulations is mandatory for any electronic device—but for Mola Mola, that’s only the beginning. The Ossetra’s new power supply sets far tighter internal limits, significantly reducing noise while boosting both dynamic and continuous output power. Combined with vastly increased current capability in the output stage, the amplifier can drive virtually any loudspeaker load.
The adoption of a full-bridge design plays a crucial role here: by balancing the circuit from input to output, the amplifier becomes a far friendlier load on its power supply. This reduces secondary strain and simplifies the overall design, ensuring consistency, stability, and an effortless sense of drive.
Modulator And Feedback System
The Ossetra employs all-new discrete Class A gain stages that handle most of the amplifier’s gain within a high-feedback design. Each stage is engineered for wide open-loop bandwidth and individually optimized for its role within the loop filter. This meticulous design allows for a complete reconfiguration of the gain structure without sonic compromise, improving both noise and distortion performance. The resulting feedback behavior around the power stage defines the amplifier’s distinctive clarity and control.
Input Stage
A newly developed discrete Class A input stage forms the first link in the Ossetra’s fully balanced signal path. Sharing the design philosophy of the downstream gain stages, it also addresses the unique demands of the input domain—offering high impedance for source compatibility, precise gain application, and complete rejection of DC or extraneous noise before the power stage.
Control
The input stages are DC coupled, ensuring a pure, capacitor-free signal path that maintains transparency. Borrowing techniques from Mola Mola’s acclaimed Makua preamplifier, the Ossetra’s input stage introduces smart DC offset correction and capacitor insertion only when necessary—safeguarding compatibility with third-party components.
New shunt voltage regulators further enhance performance, achieving exceptional noise rejection and low output impedance without cascading multiple regulators. These shunts maintain constant current draw, allowing instantaneous current delivery when required, while keeping all AC activity localized near the load. Their wide bandwidth design ensures consistency across the entire audio range, adding virtually no sonic coloration.
Balanced From Input To Output
With its full-bridge topology, the Ossetra maintains perfect electrical balance from input to output. This symmetrical structure enhances power delivery, minimizes distortion, and contributes to its remarkably open and stable soundstage.
Absolute Consistency
The amplifier’s frequency response remains ruler-flat across the audible spectrum, extending beyond 100kHz with negligible load dependency. Input stage distortion—measured below –150dB—is effectively inaudible, guaranteeing pristine transparency and musical coherence.
