As the science of high fidelity audio has evolved over the last few decades, audiophiles' desire for high quality power cables has increased exponentially. Gone are the days when a serious HiFi stereo system could be powered using the same cheap "extension cable" type of stock offering that comes with every new product, with ignorance as the only defense. Years of development and subjective experience in this field have shown unequivocally that high quality power cables should be seen as an essential, even foundational component.

Advancements in grounding, termination, materials technology and more have pushed state-of-the-art power and AC cable connections high on the priority lists of systems worldwide. And while a true system-wide improvement can be implemented at the first cable from the wall, the effects have been shown to multiply as more high end power cords are introduced.

Nordost's Red Dawn Power Cord employs high-speed, low-loss, heavy gauge 3 x 14 AWG Micro Mono-Filament (MMf) conductors sheathed in FEP insulation. The minimal dielectric effect and propagation delay ensures that power is transported as directly as possible, straight to your equipment. Meanwhile, purpose built, audio-grade connectors maintain the low source impedance of your AC supply and ensure superior grounding.

While not a very common technical audio term, "velocity propagation" speed is important in a power cable. Thanks to the physical realities of AC current traveling down a wire, no cable is perfect, and dielectric energy losses can be significant. Incorporating Nordost's proprietary MMf dielectric technique and special geometrical spacing, Red Dawn reaches a jaw-dropping propagation of 81% of the speed of light for all frequencies -- indicating just how efficient the mostly-air dielectric can be. The result is an obvious increase in resolution, and a whole-system improvement that must be heard to be believed.
