Sbooster BOTW AC Power Supply Product Description:
In January 2020, after a decade of providing linear power supplies to enhance audio and video equipment, Sbooster introduced its first BOTW upgrade AC power supply for audio devices. The BOTW AC Power Supply is designed to upgrade AC-powered audio equipment, including phono stages like the Benz Micro PP1, and to serve as a direct replacement for the basic AC/AC power supplies typically supplied with turntables from brands like Rega and Thorens.
The design is based on the company’s successful BOTW P&P ECO MKII linear power supply models, incorporating all the necessary features to deliver a noticeable difference in performance.
Why do you need the BOTW Upgrade AC power supply?
A standard, stock-supplied AC/AC power supply is typically little more than a low-cost "EL-type transformer" housed in a casing. In contrast, the BOTW upgrade AC power supply is engineered to deliver the most stable and low-noise AC current possible, ensuring superior performance compared to conventional AC power supplies.
Stability
A low-cost EL transformer not only has the lowest efficiency among available transformer types but also suffers from poor load regulation. Load regulation refers to the difference in AC output voltage between no-load and full-load conditions. For an EL transformer, this regulation is typically around 20% or worse, which leads to instability and significantly degrades the performance of audio equipment.
The BOTW upgrade AC power supply is designed to achieve the highest possible load regulation. To accomplish this, it utilizes a highly oversized, audio-grade toroidal transformer. The combination of the transformer’s robust design and ample power reserve ensures exceptionally tight load regulation, providing enhanced stability and optimal performance for audio devices.

Low noise
With an AC/AC power supply, one would expect the output to deliver a perfect sinewave of 50 or 60Hz. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. Any pollution present on the mains grid will also appear on the output of the AC/AC adapter. To prevent this mains pollution from affecting the audio device, the BOTW AC power supply begins purifying the AC mains power immediately. It features a built-in dual-stage mains filter, an upgraded gold-plated audio-purpose fuse, and an earth line choke, all of which work together to remove unwanted interference before it reaches the transformer.
Turntables
To make the BOTW AC power supply perfectly suited for turntable applications, the company has added electrostatic and high-frequency magnetic shielding to the transformer. Additionally, an anti-oscillation circuit with Wima capacitors guarantees stable operation of the power supply, regardless of the type of AC-powered audio device. Finally, a custom-made 16AWG shielded output cable with gold-plated connector pins is used to ensure low-loss distribution of the purified AC power to the device.
