The Unico DM v2 represents the pinnacle of power amplification in the Unico series, debuting as a flagship model with a completely modernized aesthetic. This project introduces a new design language for the Unison Research family, engineered to pair perfectly with its companion, the Unico PRE v2, to create a sophisticated and high-performance audio system.

Design

The chassis is anchored by a 15mm-thick solid aluminum front panel, reflecting a commitment to structural rigidity and premium build quality. Available in Velvet Gold or Midnight Black, the exterior is finished with a 2mm aluminum top cover that provides visual continuity and durability. Signature wooden inserts pay homage to the brand’s traditional logo, while the functional Unison Research® emblem serves as the unit’s power button, blending identity with operation.

Hybrid Architecture

At the core of the Unico DM v2 is a sophisticated dual-mono layout. Each channel is served by its own 750 VA encapsulated and potted toroidal transformer, a design chosen to eliminate electromagnetic interference and maximize stereo separation. The amplification signal path is a three-stage hybrid process: it begins with a Class A valve stage using Gold Lion ECC82 / 12AU7 tubes for harmonic richness, followed by a transparent solid-state driver stage, and concludes with a robust power section featuring three parallel pairs of MOSFETs. This combination ensures the amplifier can deliver massive current while maintaining total control over the loudspeaker load.

This allows the amplifier to maintain incredible depth and control at low volumes while possessing the raw energy needed to drive difficult loads in bridged mono mode.
