In early 2010, lead designer Ted Denney began exploring applications for his patent-pending EM Cell technology, aiming to create an Electromagnetic Cell Field-Effect Conditioner capable of conditioning the signal within a component. Initial experiments involved flat EM Cells placed under components, testing multiple variants until an EM Cell was perfected to improve performance across a wide range of components. Various laminates were evaluated to cancel mechanical vibrations, with the option yielding the best sound quality selected. The first Tranquility Base debuted at the 2012 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest, and in 2015 the lineup was updated with UEF Technology.
