A Master of Detail

The Nd9 represents Rega’s most advanced moving-magnet cartridge to date, drawing from decades of engineering experience and borrowed techniques from the company’s reference Aphelion 2 moving-coil design. Each cartridge is hand-built by skilled technicians using a precision Boron rod cantilever fitted with a fine line nude diamond stylus. With a stylus radius of just 3µm (top view) × 30µm (front view), the Nd9 responds instantly to micro-variations in the groove, retrieving exceptional musical detail.

A newly developed generator with perfectly symmetrical geometry ensures accurate channel balance, while an optimized pole gap improves linearity and crosstalk performance. Miniaturized parallel coils wound in-house using 38-micron wire—just 1275 turns—produce a low-inductance, low-impedance generator with significantly extended high-frequency response. As part of Rega’s sustainability efforts, the Nd series ships in fully recyclable packaging.

Nd Magnet Technology

The Nd9 is the first moving-magnet design from Rega to adopt a Neodymium N55 magnet—the most powerful commercially available magnet. Typically reserved for moving-coil designs, this high-energy magnet provides the additional magnetic flux required for the Nd9’s advanced generator architecture.

Boron Cantilever & Stylus Profile

The Boron cantilever combines low mass with exceptional rigidity, bending less under load and transmitting stylus motion with greater accuracy. Achieving a secure connection between the Nd magnet and solid Boron rod required a custom, ultra-fine joining tube, developed in collaboration with a renowned watchmaker. The result is a high-performance assembly capable of rapid response and low distortion.

Factory Fitted Option

Glass Filled PPS Body

The zero-tolerance injection-molded PPS body is highly rigid yet lightweight, reducing stress on tonearm bearings and improving the freedom of movement essential for accurate vinyl playback. Its design draws inspiration from Rega’s acclaimed moving-coil range.

Rega Rebuild Scheme

Rega’s unique pivot pad design eliminates the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and main body, improving stability and tracking. If a cartridge is worn or damaged, it can be traded in through an authorized dealer for a reduced-cost rebuilt unit featuring a new stylus, cantilever, and pivot pad. Each rebuilt unit is fully tested to original standards and provides value equivalent to a replaceable stylus from other manufacturers.
