A good power cable is designed to transfer power effectively and reduce loss with a low gauge, low impedance power connection. A great power cable goes further, and transfers high frequency down its ground wire with great efficiency, providing a clear pathway for troublesome RF to exit the system.
The series-leading Tyr 2 cable from Nordost, however, takes this paradigm up another notch. By using air as the main dielectric and silver plating for the conductors, Tyr 2’s velocity of propagation on the live wire is 91% the speed of light. The Dual Micro MonoFilament technology developed in the Valhalla 2 Reference Series allows almost unmeasurable delay and loss, while the length-specific mechanical tuning of the cable snuffs out vibrations and ensures no deviation in electrical characteristics.
Like the Heimdall 2 and Frey 2 in the Norse Series, Tyr 2 uses extruded FEP insulation, which is superior to other power cable dielectrics (save the air in the MMF tubes) in terms of low signal loss and high thermal efficiency.
7 silver plated 16 gauge conductors in the Tyr 2 form the largest cross section of a Norse power cable, allowing it to convey the sheer impact that comes from real instrumental presence, and the color, texture and intimacy that brings a voice or solo instrument to life. The result is the most musically coherent and involving performance you’ll ever have heard from your system and recordings.
