The Mk II upgrade to the Hana S Series cartridges elevates their performance and value by incorporating advanced design and materials. Under the guidance of master cartridge designer Masao Okada-san, the new tapered aluminum cantilever offers enhanced rigidity, significantly improving the transfer of groove modulation from vinyl records to the cartridge generator. This innovation leads to greater clarity and a richer musical experience.

The Mk II models integrate high-quality components and materials inspired by Hana’s elite cartridge line, delivering the signature “brilliant and gorgeous” sound. The cantilever's higher rigidity and reduced effective mass at the stylus tip further enhance sound clarity and transfer efficiency.

Key components, such as the Yoke, Pole-pieces, and gold terminal pins, undergo cryogenic treatment to produce a more natural and refined sound. The improved body shape, similar to the Hana M Series, is crafted from a matte Soft Feel Black elastomeric resin paint and features a brass cap with threaded cartridge mounting fittings. These changes, along with a heavier design, ensure better coupling with a wider range of tonearms, enhancing bass response and dynamics.

The SL Mk II generator—found in models like the Umami Blue and ML—utilizes an Alnico magnet and cross-coil system with high-purity 30-micron copper wire and an 8Ω impedance. This design optimizes signal-to-noise ratios, reduces moving mass for superior resolution and trackability, and allows for better compatibility with various phono stages, offering broader performance capabilities.
