This is Part 2 of our 6-part series on the Six Pillars of Synergy with Synergistic Research founder Ted Denney. Each pillar addresses a different domain where your system's electromagnetic environment is being shaped — for better or worse — whether you're managing it or not.

Most audiophiles spend years building a system, source, amplifier, speakers, and then connect the pieces with whatever cables reviewed well that month. A highly rated interconnect here. A well-regarded speaker cable there. Mix, match, hope for the best.

Ted Denney has a name for this approach: "Cable stew."

"If you just have a couple of Synergistic cables and you're putting it in with cable stew, you're just trying to get it to balance with cables that were never designed to work together. The Cable Is Not a Pipe

The most important thing to understand about cables, and the thing the audio industry has been slow to accept, is what a cable actually does.

A cable is not a pipe that carries electrons from one component to another. The signal is the electromagnetic field propagating around the conductor, not the electrons themselves. The conductor is the waveguide. The field is the music.

That distinction changes everything about how cables should be designed and selected.

If the signal is the field, then every element of the cable, the conductor material, the dielectric surrounding it, the geometry of how conductors are arranged, the shielding, is actively shaping how that field propagates. Not passively connecting two points. Shaping the signal itself.

The Problem With Conventional Shielding

Here's where most cable design creates a problem it doesn't know it has.

Conventional shielding blocks RF interference from entering the cable. That's real and useful. But it also reflects the signal's own field back on itself, compressing phase relationships and flattening the soundstage. You solved the noise problem and introduced a different one.

Instead, Synergistic Research uses advanced metamaterials. These materials act like a one-way filter, completely stopping high-frequency digital noise while letting the pure audio signal flow through untouched. The result? Total noise rejection without the choked, constrained sound that traditional shielded cables suffer from.

The Loom Philosophy

The Bigger Picture
